Tail Lights and Mirrors

Tail lights are just as, if not more important than head lights. Vehicles come upon you from behind, so it’s imperative you be seen from the rear. Modern LED tail lights, like headlights, are capable of very bright output for long duration. You can use one in flash mode and ride all day! Using lithium-ion batteries, they can be easily recharged and are a necessity, as far as I’m concerned. It’s pretty cheap insurance. Below is a Cygolite Hotshot, which has several flashing modes that can be used for daylight riding.

Bicycle riding is a heads up activity; you need to be aware of what is going on around you at all times. Luckily, there are cycling mirrors to help you keep track of what’s going on behind you. The easiest to use mirrors are the type that clip onto either a helmet visor, or glasses frame. Another type attaches to the end of your handlebar.
