Hydrogen Car Prototype

Hydrogen Car Prototype

For a hydrogen car prototype, HYPROSI uses a process patented by these researchers that allows the efficient production, storage and safe transport of hydrogen for using it in fuel cells through so-called liquid organic hydrogen carriers, or LOHC.
The organic liquid carrying hydrogen is the result of the combination between a silane and an alcohol that, in the presence of a catalyst, allows the generation of hydrogen in a rapid and controlled manner. Its main advantage is that the production of hydrogen is carried out at atmospheric pressure and at temperatures even below 0 ºC.
“It is a versatile process from the chemical point of view, because there are many combinations of hydrosilanes and alcohols that can be used and the safety risks derived from high pressure gas storage are avoided,” says researcher José A. Mata, project manager of HYPROSI.

Hydrogen is produced quickly and efficiently controlled by the use of catalysts. Both the organic liquids used and the catalyst are stable and can be used to produce hydrogen for long periods of time. The controlled generation of hydrogen allows its release according to the needs of the user. This would solve the security problems of the vehicles that are currently on the market, since they store the gas at high pressure.
In the proof of concept carried out with the prototype (electric vehicle), an optimum hydrogen flow has been achieved that acts as a fuel cell power source. This battery transforms the stored energy in the form of hydrogen into electrical energy that allows the vehicle to be driven. The advantage of this type of batteries is that by reacting hydrogen and oxygen, the only byproduct that is produced is water. This is why hydrogen is considered one of the cleanest renewable sources on the planet.
“In this way, we take advantage of the energy contained in an organic liquid, demonstrating its storage capacity and transforming chemical energy into electricity thanks to the breakage and formation of intermolecular chemical bonds. The next step would be to apply it in a larger prototype, even in a real hydrogen car,” explains UJI researcher María Pilar Borja.
This new procedure constitutes an important advance, since it allows to solve the problematic of the storage and danger of the accumulation of gases in the automobile, being only liquid the components to take into account within the system. Therefore, the recharge of organic liquid in the vehicle could occur in the same way that a car powered by fossil fuels is refueled.
“The results we have obtained in these tests are very positive. Now, we must continue working so that this research reaches the automobile market. For this, our next challenge would be to improve the efficiency of the recovery of the starting silane, as well as to increase the amount of hydrogen stored in this silane, which in the studies carried out is 6 percent by weight,” says Hermenegildo García, researcher of the Institute of Chemical Technology (UPV-CSIC).

Location: Fiesta Hotel
Henderson, NV

The Las Vegas Double Century is one of the double centuries
included in the U.S.A. Double-Double, and the U.S.A. Triple Crown.

What you’ll like about Las Vegas Double Century is that it is routed north of the city,
riding in a bike lane on smooth pavement, no signal lights through the beautiful Valley of Fire.
Even though it is an out and back, the scenery is so spectacular, this is going
to be a non- issue. This year will be a fund raiser for those injured recently in Las Vegas.
The Adobo Club Chapter in Las Vegas will be assisting in supporting this double.
Route Map

The ride starts and finishes at Fiesta Hotel & Casino in Henderson, Nevada at 4:30am.

The Maui Century Ride is being sponsored by the Maui Bicycle Club, Maui’s oldest active bicycle club. A century ride is an opportunity for cyclists to test their fitness on a measured course of 100 miles, with 75 mile, 50 mile and 25 mile options. This year there will be four (4) separate soft start times: 100 Mile ride at 6:30am, 75 Mile ride at 7:30am, 50 mile ride at 8:30am, and the 25 mile ride at 9:30am. All registered riders must check in prior to beginning their ride. Registered riders are allowed to check in and start earlier than the suggested start time. This is to prevent mass groups from leaving at one time and the accompanying traffic problems they create. You may start early or later but the event is closed at 2:00pm. Please select a ride distance you can complete before 2:00pm and start at a time that will allow you to complete your ride within this time limit. Sag wagon support will not be available after 2:00pm also. The Heart of Arizona Century is a classic bicycle ride started in 1983 and resurrected by the Bullshifters Bicycling Club. This year the route is being changed so participants will have the opportunity to climb Yarnell Grade made famous by the Race Across America. It’s a seven mile climb on wide, smooth shoulders that stays a steady 5% to 6% while giving spectacular views of Vulture Peak and the enormous valley that is the last of the low lying desert in Arizona. You will understand why this is one of the most photographed climbs on the Race Across America.

There’s a climb to get to Yarnell, but your reward is the thrilling 7 mile descent of Yarnell Hill! This is what you’ve worked for all day long. After the e-ticket descent, you’ll have a couple miles of soft peddling and story telling with your riding buds as you cruise on in to the finish.
